On 8 August 2025, Jidu successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), passing with minor revisions.
In his thesis, “Multiscale Modeling of Coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical Behaviour of Granular Media”, supervised by Prof. Jidong Zhao, Jidu developed advanced continuum-based material point method (MPM) frameworks and continuum-discrete MPM-DEM coupling approaches to model phase transitions and large deformations in frozen soils and methane hydrate-bearing sediments.
Jidu sincerely thanks the members of his thesis examination committee, Prof. Johan Gaume, Prof. Xiaofang Zhou, Prof. Limin Zhang, Prof. Wenjing Ye and Prof. Gang Wang, for their time and invaluable insights, and Prof. Zhao for his guidance throughout his doctoral studies.
