We are pleased to share that Jidu’s abstract, “Shear-Triggered Hydrate Dissociation Drives Autocatalytic Failure of Submarine Slopes” (OS51B-04), has been accepted for an oral presentation at the AGU26 Annual Meeting, the world’s largest gathering of Earth and space scientists, to be held in San Francisco, CA, and online on 7–11 December 2026.

The talk is part of Session OS51B, Gas Hydrate Systems in Arctic and Marine Environments II, and is scheduled for Friday, 11 December 2026 (09:09–09:21 PST). Of the 23 abstracts submitted to the session, only 7 were selected for oral presentation, with the remaining 16 assigned to posters.

This is Jidu’s first time taking part in a major geophysics meeting. As his research is rooted in geotechnical engineering, the oral slot is an encouraging sign that the marine geology and geophysics community recognizes the value of this work. In addition, a joint study by Jidu and Andy (Zhuo Liu) on MPM simulation of Martian impact craters has also been selected for an oral presentation. Congratulations to both!

With two months to go, we will keep refining the work and look forward to productive discussions with experts in the geoscience community. Jidu’s former Ph.D. group colleagues Jianchuan, Xiaoying and Yuxuan will also attend the meeting, and we look forward to meeting them in San Francisco.
